Covers – The Basics
In the past few weeks, I’ve been working in a different area in Suno AI. I have been covering other writers’ songs. What this means is that when a writer marks their song “remix allowed”, any other writer can cover it. What does that entail? First, Select Remix on the original song, and cover in the remix menu. This will cause the original song to be loaded into my Create page. From there, i can change the lyrics, style, and options. Then I click Create, and the song is generated. Adjustments may be made, and the process rerun as many times as desired. Once the desired song has been created, it is Published. Sounds easy, huh?
The Product
So, now you know the process, what is the product? It is a song which combines the original’s melody and lyrics, with my musical treatment and vocals. Why in the world would I want to do this? It is very enjoyable to take existing lyrics and craft a whole new musical treatment, selecting instruments in various combinations to find just the right mix. Then there is the genre, should it be country, jazz, classical, or maybe a combination of two? Next, we have the vocals, male, female, or both in harmony? What kind of voices, bass, baritone, tenor? Clear, raspy, desperate, calming? The musical style has so many different aspects that you could write a book on it. Please! Somebody write a book! There is virtually no documentation, so i’m having to learn all the style inputs by trial and error, as well as reading, and reusing, elements of the style prompts from other writers’ songs.
Night Mail
Some, okay, most, of you have received texts from me with timestamps around 3 AM or a similar, ridiculous time of night. I’ve gotten quite a number of responses in the morning telling me to go to bed and get some sleep. Yeah, well, about that. Since my bypass surgery in 2020, sleep is fleeting. Some nights I sleep 5 to 7 hours, but most are more like 2 or 3 hours of sleep. and some are eyes wide open all night long. So, what do you do when you don’t sleep at night? Put on the headphones so as to not wake up Sandy, listen to music, and do covers of some of the good songs you hear. Not a bad life, as long as you’re retired, which I just happen to be. But if I drift off for a few minutes later on, don’t yell at me……..
Listen Up
Now that you know the details, please go to the new page, Music – Covers, and have a listen to the tunes. There are over 30 songs to choose from, so there should be something there that you will like. And I introduce a new band, Crazy Van’s Wacky Band. I think you’ll like it.
Till next time,
Van
