Music – Covers

The Covers

What is a cover, you may ask? It does not refer to a manhole cover, or the lid to a pot on the stove. No, a cover is just an easy to say word that means someone else wrote the original song, and I took that and made some different music and vocals to go with the original melody and lyrics. Note: Some of the names of the original songwriter are online nicknames. Don’t blame me. I didn’t make them up, except for mine, Gone Fishin’.

The Band

The Covers project has been quite enjoyable, especially since I’ve been able to meet a few songwriters online and get to know them a little bit through their music, and mine, and every minute of that has been a pleasure. Of all the writers I’ve encountered, I am undeniably the least capable in the craft of songwriting, but I’m learning!

During the course of the project, I experimented with combining instruments in novel ways, as I have been doing all along. This time, though, I found my favorite combination, for now, and assembled a new band. And is it a doozy!

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, may I introduce to you, appearing for the first time anywhere, Crazy Van’s Wacky Band!

Taking the lead is our Eberle violin, made by Johans Eberle of Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1764. followed by our balalaika, imported from Russia, harmonica, made in USA, tuba, trumpet or flugelhorn if the mood strikes, clarinet, brushed snare and kick bass, steel drum, bongos, and last and certainly least, maracas. I think you could say that this band has it all, and then some! But just wait until you hear the sounds that these guys can make in combinations you never dreamed of. If you don’t trust me on that, I will point you to song #5, Ordinary Grace. You’ll be coming around to my way of thinking after hearing that one.
